Facial contouring with hyaluronic acid fillers aims to restore volume and adjust selected proportions. Treatment may involve the cheeks, chin or jawline. The plan follows an anatomical assessment; the aim is a change suited to your face, rather than the same quantity of filler for everyone.
Cross-linked hyaluronic acid is a gel that occupies space in the tissues and binds water. Products differ in their properties and intended use. Selecting the appropriate tissue layer and quantity influences both the result and safety.
Fillers do not remove excess skin or replace a surgical facelift for significant sagging. Nose and eye-area treatments require separate assessment because of their particular anatomy and risks.

Your doctor may recommend a staged approach. Overfilling increases the risk of an unnatural appearance, irregularities and swelling.
Discuss previous fillers, operations, allergies, medicines and health conditions. An active infection, allergy to ingredients, pregnancy or breastfeeding requires avoiding or postponing elective treatment. Do not change anticoagulant medication yourself.
After preparing the skin, the doctor places filler using a needle or cannula. You may feel the injections and pressure. Anaesthesia is selected according to the area and product.

Added volume can be visible quickly, but results are assessed once swelling settles. The effect may last for many months, depending on the product, site and individual tissues. Repeat treatment requires reassessment and is not automatically needed after a fixed interval.
Follow instructions about exercise, excessive heat and pressure on the face. Do not massage injection sites without advice. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumps, asymmetry and delayed inflammatory reactions can occur.
A rare serious risk is blood vessel blockage causing skin necrosis, visual disturbance or loss of sight. Severe increasing pain, skin blanching or mottled discolouration, and visual symptoms require immediate medical attention.
