NIFTY Premium – prenatal screening in Gdańsk
NIFTY Premium combines the NIFTY Pro and MONO panels. Analysis of cell-free DNA in maternal blood assesses the risk of selected chromosomal conditions and single-gene disorders. At Tartaczna 2 Medical Centre, you can discuss the scope of testing and have a blood sample taken.
This is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. A high-risk result requires consultation and confirmation through an appropriate diagnostic investigation.

What does NIFTY Premium include?
- Trisomies 21, 18 and 13, associated with Down, Edwards and Patau syndromes.
- Trisomies 9, 16 and 22 and selected sex chromosome conditions.
- Deletion and duplication syndromes and additional findings, according to the selected package and the patient's consent.
- Information about the baby's sex, on request.
- Selected single-gene conditions in the MONO panel.
The detailed scope, reporting criteria and limitations are confirmed in the laboratory's current documentation before ordering. Expanded panels do not test for every possible genetic condition. You can also read about the main part of screening on our NIFTY test page.
MONO – what is single-gene screening?
Single-gene disorders involve changes in an individual gene. MONO covers selected dominant conditions, including those associated with new genetic variants, known as de novo variants. These can occur without similar conditions in the family.
Some of these conditions do not cause clear ultrasound findings, particularly in early pregnancy. Some are associated with paternal age, but they can also occur in children of younger parents. Maternal age cannot rule out their risk.
Evidence supporting cell-free DNA screening for single-gene conditions in the general pregnancy population is limited. ACOG does not currently recommend such screening in pregnancy. Before choosing an expanded panel, discuss its capabilities, limitations and alternatives with your doctor.
Blood collection and preparation
The Premium package requires two maternal venous blood samples of 10 ml each: one for NIFTY Pro and one for MONO. Analysis uses next-generation sequencing (NGS). You do not need to fast.
If you take low-molecular-weight heparin, agree the timing of blood collection with your treating doctor and the sampling team. Do not stop the medicine or delay or omit a dose on your own.
Samples are collected at our centre without an appointment Monday to Friday, 08:00–12:00, and Saturdays, 09:00–12:00. An individual appointment can also be arranged.
When will I receive the results, and what do they mean?
The two parts are reported separately. We confirm the expected turnaround time when ordering; additional analysis or a repeat sample may extend the wait.
- A high-risk or positive result: genetic counselling and a confirmatory diagnostic test appropriate to the finding are needed. A screening result alone does not establish a diagnosis in the baby.
- A low-risk or negative result: reduces the likelihood of the tested conditions but does not exclude them completely or rule out other abnormalities.
- A non-reportable result: your doctor determines the next steps; it should not be treated as a normal result.
NIFTY Premium does not replace ultrasound or standard antenatal care. If an ultrasound shows abnormalities or the history suggests a genetic condition, specialist assessment is indicated; diagnostic testing may be more appropriate than further screening. No screening test guarantees a baby's health.
