PRP hair treatment in Gdańsk

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is prepared from your own blood. A platelet-containing fraction is injected into the scalp after processing. Growth factors released by platelets may influence the environment around hair follicles. PRP is neither a hair transplant nor a stem cell treatment.

When may PRP be considered?

PRP may be considered as an adjunct for selected patients with androgenetic, or pattern, hair loss. Studies suggest that hair density may improve, but responses vary and treatment protocols are not uniform.

The cause of thinning must be established first. Alopecia areata, inflammatory scalp conditions, deficiencies and temporary shedding need different approaches. PRP cannot recreate follicles destroyed by scarring and does not replace treatment of the underlying cause.

What happens during PRP scalp treatment?

1. A small amount of your blood is collected.
2. The blood is centrifuged and processed in a system designed for this purpose.
3. The doctor injects the prepared product into selected areas of the scalp.

The injections can sting or hurt. Using your own blood reduces some risks associated with foreign material, but does not eliminate infection, bruising or reactions to other products used during the procedure.

How many sessions are needed?

A course is usually planned, with the number and spacing of sessions determined individually. Improvement is assessed over several months, ideally using comparative photographs. Any maintenance treatment depends on your response. Lack of improvement calls for reassessment of the treatment plan.

Preparation and contraindications

Tell your doctor about anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines, blood disorders, anaemia, infections and cancer treatment. Problems with platelet numbers or function may affect suitability. Additional tests are arranged when indicated.

Do not stop medication or change doses yourself. An active scalp infection needs treatment first. Elective cosmetic procedures are deferred during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

After the procedure

Temporary tenderness, redness, swelling and small bruises can occur. Follow the instructions on hair washing, products and activity. Increasing pain, fever or pus requires medical advice.
