Urodynamic tests are recommended when the results of urinalysis and urinary tract ultrasound do not provide a clear answer as to the causes of urinary incontinence or frequency of urination. They allow a detailed assessment of urethral and bladder function by examining the duration and volume of micturition, bladder pressure, as well as sphincter and rectal muscle tone. Such a comprehensive knowledge gives the doctor a complete picture of the individual case and allows him or her to make a proper diagnosis and choose an effective therapy.
Please report to the Tartaczna 2 Medical Center on the scheduled date, approximately 30 minutes before the scheduled examination. Due to sanitary restrictions, please report without other persons or with an accompanying person only in cases of minor or disabled patients. We also remind you to wear a mask, disinfect your hands upon entering the facility, and keep your distance.
We rely on your understanding in this regard.
How do I prepare for a urodynamic examination?
- Please discontinue all medications prescribed for bladder disorders 7 days prior to the examination.
- Bring your available medical documentation, possibly a recent ultrasound result of urinary tract or abdominal cavity (not older than 3 months) – if you do not have it, it is possible to have it done by urologist during the visit (the additional cost added to the visit will be 100 PLN).
- The test is not performed during an active infection.
It is advisable to perform a general urine test or have a recent culture result. The test results should not be older than 2 weeks. As the minimum wait time for culture results is 3 - 4 days, please take this into consideration when registering for your test. There is a possibility to perform urinalysis and urine culture in our facility, with a waiting period of 4 days for the result of the culture and about 4 hours for the result of the urinalysis. In order to do so, please come in with a sample of your morning urine between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday; no registration is required. The urine should be collected in the morning in a container purchased from a pharmacy; in the case of a culture, it must be a sterile container. The cost of such an examination is:
General urine examination - 10 PLN.
Urine culture - 40 PLN.
Before the test, consume approximately 0.5-1 L of fluids. The bladder should be full, as the first step of the test is to measure the volume and rate of micturition.
The patient to undergo urodynamic testing must undress from the waist down. In the toilet, you will find hygiene products available, such as disposable skirts and slippers to provide comfort and increase the sense of intimacy. The doctor will prepare the patient for the test by inserting the appropriate catheters. The examination itself takes between 15 and 45 minutes.
Be sure to take in plenty of fluids for several days after the test. This will greatly reduce the risk of developing infections. You may experience a mild burning sensation and general discomfort afterwards. We suggest taking antiseptics such as Furoxin or Urosept 2x1 tabl. 3 days before the test. (These are over-the-counter products). They need to be continued until 3-4 days after the test.
