Oncology
An oncologist in Gdańsk can help plan investigations for a suspicious finding, explain a cancer diagnosis and discuss the next steps in treatment. At Tartaczna 2 Medical Centre, consultations are provided by Dr Magdalena E. Korożan, a specialist in clinical oncology and radiation oncology. We see patients with suspected cancer, during treatment and after treatment has finished.
When should you see an oncologist?
A consultation may be appropriate if imaging or a biopsy has shown an abnormality, you have received a cancer diagnosis or you would like a second opinion on a proposed treatment plan. Persistent, unexplained symptoms, such as an enlarging lump, unusual bleeding or unintentional weight loss, also need medical assessment. These symptoms have many possible causes and do not necessarily mean cancer.
What does an oncology consultation involve?
- Reviewing your symptoms, medical history and previous test results.
- Explaining histopathology or cytology findings and whether further investigations are needed.
- Discussing treatment options, including systemic therapy, radiotherapy and surgery, as appropriate to the diagnosis.
- Discussing follow-up after treatment and symptoms that develop during treatment.
- Assessing the need for further consultations and tests when there is a family history of cancer.
The care plan depends on the type and stage of cancer, its characteristics, your general health and your preferences. The consultation at our centre helps establish the next steps; the appropriate setting for each part of treatment is determined as part of that plan.
Investigations and surgical oncology consultations
Where indicated, our centre offers ultrasound examinations, laboratory tests and surgical oncology consultations. Dr Natalia Spychalska and Dr Kamil Drucis assess patients for biopsies and selected surgical procedures.
Your doctor selects investigations according to the clinical findings. Blood tumour markers are not a universal test for detecting or ruling out cancer and do not replace an appropriate diagnostic assessment.
Family history of cancer and breast cancer during pregnancy
If relatives have had cancer, you can discuss whether genetic testing and an individual prevention plan may be appropriate. Read more about hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and breast cancer during pregnancy on our dedicated pages.
How to prepare for your appointment
Bring histopathology and cytology reports, imaging reports and any available images, hospital discharge summaries and a list of your medicines. For a second opinion, bring your existing treatment plan as well. Preparing a list of questions can help you make the most of the consultation.
