Dermatology at Tartaczna 2 Medical Centre in Gdańsk focuses on diagnosing and treating skin, hair and nail conditions in adults. Dermatology and venereology consultations are provided by Dr Sara Strugała. During your appointment, the doctor recommends investigations, treatment and skin care suited to your symptoms and general health.

When should you see a dermatologist?

A dermatology consultation can help identify the cause of problems such as:

• acne and rosacea,
• itching, rashes, redness and recurrent skin irritation,
• symptoms of atopic dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis or psoriasis,
• suspected fungal infections of the skin or nails and other skin infections,
• excessive hair loss and changes in the appearance of the nails,
• warts, verrucae, new skin lesions and moles that need assessment.

Arrange a prompt assessment if a lesion grows quickly, changes colour or shape, bleeds or does not heal. These symptoms need medical attention, although they do not always indicate cancer.

Mole checks and dermoscopy

We offer dermoscopy – mole and skin lesion checks, covering individual lesions or a full-body mole examination. Examining the skin under magnification helps the doctor decide which lesions need monitoring, follow-up or removal.

Dermoscopy does not replace histopathological examination when a tissue sample is needed. A suspicious lesion should first be assessed and a method chosen that preserves tissue for examination, rather than using a treatment that destroys it.

Investigating skin, hair and nail conditions

Diagnosis starts with a discussion of your symptoms and a clinical examination. Depending on the findings, additional investigations may include:

• bacteriological tests when a bacterial infection is suspected,
• mycological tests and, in selected cases, molecular tests for fungal infections,
• a skin biopsy for histopathological examination when the appearance of a lesion is not enough to establish a diagnosis or raises concern about cancer.

The investigations required depend on your symptoms, how long they have been present and any previous treatment. Not every skin lesion requires laboratory tests or a biopsy.

Skin lesion removal and dermatological procedures

At Tartaczna 2 Medical Centre, selected skin lesions, including warts and genital warts, can be removed using laser, plasma or surgical methods. The choice of method follows a medical assessment, including a decision on whether histopathological examination is needed.

Venereology – assessment of genital symptoms

A venereology consultation covers the assessment of changes affecting the skin and mucous membranes of the genital area, as well as testing for sexually transmitted infections. Tests are selected according to your symptoms and medical history. The appearance of a lesion alone does not always reveal its cause.
