Laboratory

The laboratory sample collection point in Gdańsk at Tartaczna 2 Medical Centre collects samples for blood tests, microbiological investigations and genetic testing. We welcome adults and children. Tests are available privately on a doctor's recommendation or at your own request, subject to the requirements of the individual test.

We work with Diagnostyka, ALAB (Bruss) and GenePlanet laboratories. Discussing your choice of tests with a doctor can help ensure they are appropriate for your symptoms, diagnostic needs and current treatment.

Sample collection in Gdańsk – opening hours

• Monday–Friday: 08:00–12:00.
• Saturday: 09:00–12:00.

No appointment is required for a standard blood sample collection. For tests requiring a longer visit, a special kit or collection during a medical appointment, please check the arrangements with reception. Our collection point is at ul. Tartaczna 2/1a in Gdańsk.

Blood tests and other laboratory investigations

Our services include:

• Blood tests – full blood count, biochemistry, glucose, lipid profile, hormone tests and blood group testing.
• Urine tests and microbiological investigations, including cultures and swabs selected according to the suspected infection.
• Testing for genital infections and HPV – the sample type and testing method depend on the clinical indication.
• Allergy blood tests, including the ALEX panel, which measures IgE antibodies to allergens. Results must be interpreted alongside symptoms; this is not a genetic test.
• Oral glucose tolerance testing (OGTT) and liquid-based cervical cytology (LBC), with cervical samples taken during an appropriate appointment.

Reception can confirm availability, prices, sample requirements and collection arrangements for a particular test. Tumour markers are selected according to clinical indications; they are not a universal test for ruling out cancer in someone without symptoms.

Genetic and prenatal testing

We collect samples for genetic testing, including NIFTY and NIFTY Premium prenatal screening, and hereditary cancer predisposition tests such as Cancer Screen. A blood or saliva sample is used, depending on the test.

NIFTY is a screening test that estimates the risk of selected genetic conditions in the fetus. A high-risk result requires medical advice and confirmation with an appropriate diagnostic test. Hereditary cancer testing assesses inherited risk rather than the presence of cancer.

Preparing for your sample collection

Not every blood test requires fasting. Preparation depends on the tests ordered. If fasting is required, follow the specified interval without food; plain water is allowed. Rest for around 15 minutes before the sample is taken and avoid strenuous exercise beforehand.

Tell the staff about medicines, supplements, pregnancy and any previous fainting during blood collection. Do not stop taking medicines on your own. Some hormone tests need to be taken at a particular time of day or stage of the menstrual cycle. Bring urine and other samples in the correct container, following the instructions for your test.

Receiving and discussing your results

Turnaround times depend on the investigation. Routine blood tests, cultures, cytology and genetic tests may be completed at different times. You will be told the expected waiting time when the test is ordered or the sample collected.

For tests with online access, you can view results on the relevant laboratory's website using the code provided. Results can also be collected at the centre. Discuss any findings that need clarification with your doctor in the context of your symptoms and medical history.
