We perform selected minor procedures in the treatment room at Tartaczna 2. Most are carried out under local anaesthesia following medical assessment and discussion of the available treatment options. The scope of a procedure depends on factors including the type, size and location of the lesion, the patient’s general health and any medicines being taken.
Services include the removal of epidermoid cysts, lipomas, fibromas and selected skin lesions; surgical treatment of ingrown toenails; incision and drainage of abscesses; skin and soft-tissue biopsies; treatment of selected wounds; dressing changes; and suture removal. Whether a procedure can be performed during the first appointment depends on prior arrangements with reception, the findings of the medical examination and the treatment time available.
An epidermoid cyst, often informally referred to as a sebaceous cyst, and a lipoma are usually benign. However, they may increase in size, become irritated, cause discomfort or develop recurrent inflammation. Lumps that look similar are not always the same condition, so a medical assessment is required before treatment.
We also surgically remove selected moles, lumps and other lesions of the skin or subcutaneous tissue. If a lesion is suspicious for cancer, it is important to plan the procedure correctly and preserve the specimen for histopathological examination. Our surgical clinic assesses selected recent, postoperative and slow-healing wounds. Depending on the clinical findings, treatment may include wound cleaning, application of an appropriate dressing, surgical wound care, monitoring of healing or suture removal.
If a wound is extensive or deep, is bleeding heavily, resulted from a serious injury, or is accompanied by fever, rapidly spreading redness or a deterioration in your general condition, please attend a hospital emergency department or call the emergency services.
An enlarged lymph node does not always require surgery. The first steps often include a medical examination, ultrasound, laboratory tests or a needle biopsy. Excision may be considered when examination of the entire structure of the lymph node is needed to establish a diagnosis.
Selected superficial lymph nodes may be removed under local anaesthesia. If a lymph node is located more deeply or a more extensive procedure is required, hospital treatment may be necessary. Further information is available on our lymph node excision page.
A surgical oncology consultation may be appropriate for a suspicious skin or soft-tissue lesion, an abnormal histopathology result, an enlarged lymph node, or when further diagnostic tests and treatment need to be planned. The specialist reviews the medical records and determines whether outpatient treatment is suitable or whether diagnosis or surgery should take place in hospital.

Most minor outpatient procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. The doctor decides which form of anaesthesia is appropriate and whether the procedure can be safely carried out in the clinic after assessing the patient.
This depends on the type of lesion and the purpose of the procedure. Suspicious lesions and tissue collected for diagnostic purposes require histopathological assessment. The doctor will explain whether the examination is needed and discuss its cost during qualification for the procedure.
